Job Posting: Director of Facilities and Safety – Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana

Job Summary:

The Director of Facilities and Safety provides direction and leadership for the success of the department. The Director plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and manages the operations of the Plant Operations, Maintenance, Grounds, Environmental Services, Security and Dietary (contracted).  The Director also serves as the safety officer, directing and maintaining practices to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.  The Director further maintains requirements with applicable regulatory agency requirements; including The Joint Commission areas for Life Safety, Environment of Care and Emergency Management.

  • Coordinates scheduled maintenance and inspections with outside vendors as required by Joint Commission, and preventative maintenance schedules and other standards.
  • Oversees the requisitioned, emergency and preventative maintenance of buildings and equipment associated with the hospital and according to regulatory requirements and scheduled maintenance.
  • Directs the completion of preventative maintenance, as well as urgent and routine repairs in electrical, mechanical, refrigeration and HVAC equipment with particular attention to systems related to life safety.
  • Reports regularly and as needed to the COO regarding the physical and structural conditions of hospital facilities and the status of work in progress.
  • Develops, evaluates and implements departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives, facilities plans, and standards of work for the appropriate health of facilities areas.
  • Negotiates priorities, plans work schedules, makes job assignments, orders needed materials, supplies and parts.
  • Recommends use of outside specialty contractors as circumstance indicate.
  • Schedules and supervises maintenance repair work, remodeling, construction, installation and servicing of mechanical and electrical equipment and building systems
  • Oversees the daily performance and environment of care, including external grounds, to assure satisfactory appearance and safety.

 

Requirements:

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in plant operations/maintenance; 2 years required in a supervisory role.  Experience with TJC accreditation and ISDH surveys essential.  Patient safety management experience in a health care setting required.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.   Must receive CPR training within 8 weeks of hire and maintain current thereafter.  Requires certification in CPI at first available opportunity following employment to be maintained current thereafter.  Must have a valid Indiana Driver’s license.
