Morning Session: Health Care Energy Management
As health care budgets continue to be squeezed, facilities managers are under increased pressure to reduce operational costs. Utility costs can represent 50 percent or more of a facility manager’s operating budget, and 3 to 5 percent of a hospitals overall operating budget. This session will examine energy management, looking at opportunities for effective management of energy costs and consumption.
Presenters:
Tim Adams, Director Professional Growth, ASHE
Mike Kuechenmeister, Director Plant Operations, UC Health-West Chester Hospital

Afternoon Session: Emergency Planning and Utility System Risk Assessment
Presenters:
Tim Adams, ASHE Director Professional Growth
Mike Kuechenmeister, Director Plant Operations, UC Health-West Chester Hospital
The recent tornado outbreaks as well as not too distant memories of the devastation caused by hurricanes has increased our awareness of the need for planning and practicing how we manage unusual events that affect our hospitals. Not only could a hospital or health care facility be faced with a natural or external disaster that affects its operation, but internal events and utility system failures must also be considered as a very real possibility. This session will discuss the use of a Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (HVA) to assess a hospital’s utility systems. The session will incorporate video case studies of actual events, both natural and internal that affected the operation of a facility and will examine lessons learned.
