Mechanical Rooms Without Boilers: Are They Hazardous Areas?
If your facility has a mechanical room that does not contain boilers or fuel-fired equipment, the room is generally not considered a hazardous area, said ASHE Member Professional Development Director Tim Adams, FASHE, CHFM, CHC. But Adams noted that such mechanical rooms are often used for storage. In that case, authorities having jurisdiction may consider the combustible load in the room enough to require the room to be protected as a hazardous area. Adams explains the issue in this short "Just Ask ASHE" video on ASHE's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKkEYz2ayD0
