Schneck Medical Center Receives 2011 Presidential Award for Quality and Performance Excellence
President Barack H. Obama and Commerce Secretary John Bryson have announced Schneck Medical Center as one of four organizations to receive the 2011 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s highest presidential honor for quality and organizational performance excellence.
Schneck is the first organization in Indiana to win the Baldrige Award. Special congratulations to ISHE members at Schneck: Les Chase, Andy Hagedorn, Cody Moore, And Travis Simpson.
In addition to Schneck, the 2011 Baldrige Award recipients include: Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, Missouri; Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, Michigan; and, Southcentral Foundation, Anchorage, Alaska.
“Schneck first implemented the Baldrige framework four years ago to accelerate and prioritize our performance excellence journey,” said Gary A. Meyer, President/CEO of Schneck Medical Center. “The Baldrige criteria and our unwavering commitment to quality, satisfaction, and continuous improvement have helped us toward our vision to be an organization of excellence, every person, every time.”
“Our employees are our most important contributor to Schneck’s performance excellence,” said Meyer. “Receiving this award is an extraordinary accomplishment and recognition of their commitment to continuously improve patient outcomes while safely reducing the cost of care.”
At the forefront of Schneck’s commitment to excellence is the Patient First Culture. This initiative has resulted in numerous advances in clinical outcomes, patient safety enhancements, and organizational and customer service improvements.
Schneck and the other 2011 Baldrige Award recipients were selected from among 69 applicants. All of the applicants were evaluated rigorously by an independent board of examiners in seven areas: leadership; strategic planning; customer and market focus; measurement, analysis, and knowledge management; human resource focus; process management; and results. The evaluation process for the 2011 Baldrige Award recipients included about 1,000 hours of review and an on-site visit by teams of examiners to clarify questions and verify information in the applications.
The 2011 Baldrige Award recipients are expected to be presented with their award in a ceremony in Washington, DC, early next year.
